About Steep LA

Modern Tea Room, Cocktail Bar, and Eatery in the heart of Chinatown

Steep LA is one of the tea houses listed in Los Angeles, California. The business is registered at 970 N Broadway #112, Los Angeles, CA 90012; use this page to check its hours, phone number and Google rating before you make the trip. Google also lists it under cocktail bar, restaurant, which is worth knowing if you are comparing several options in the area.

Hours at these spots often run into the evening, later than a typical coffee shop, and many stay open on weekends when demand is highest in Los Angeles. Seasonal and limited-time drink or dessert flavors are common, so a shop's current menu can differ from what is posted online; checking recent photos or calling ahead helps. Some locations in California are dessert-only with no seating, meant for takeout, while others have cafe-style seating for staying a while. Straws for bubble tea are typically wide to accommodate the toppings, and are provided automatically unless you ask for a regular one. Loyalty apps and stamp cards are common at chain locations, and ordering ahead through an app can shorten a wait considerably at busy locations during peak after-school and after-dinner hours.

Hours are published for 6 days a week. The most common schedule is 11 am–11 pm. Note that it does not open on Monday. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is (213) 394-5045. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. More information is available on its website, steepla.com.

Customers rate it 4.5 out of 5 on Google across 193 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded tea houses in Los Angeles.

Los Angeles is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Traffic in Los Angeles peaks on weekday mornings and afternoons, so allow extra time then. Stopped in unexpectedly, right at the opening of their dinner service. As I didn't have a reservation, they offered to seat me at the bar, which was perfectly fine with me. I was only stopping in to have some tea, as Google said they were a tea shop (and they are, sorta). If you're after tea, I recommend coming in during their morning/lunch service, as the post-5 pm service is catered to dinner and drinks far more than it is tea. All that said, I had an absolutely lovely experience. I wish I had thought to write this review sooner, when I still remembered everyone's names, but I had a great time at the bar, chatting with the bartender and the manager. They were accomodating with a cup of some wonderful oolong tea, some snacks (some sort of spiced popcorn that was delicious), and a couple of cocktails. The staff was lovely, the atmosphere was fantastic, and overall, I had an absolutely wonderful experience. One of a few true highlights of my California trip, and a place I think of often, even months later.

cafe by day and a cocktail bar by night, and it’s such a great spot for drinks. My husband stumbled upon this place and we stopped by just for cocktails right after our dinner, and the drinks were fantastic. The bar manager is incredibly friendly and recommended drinks based on your taste profile. The indoor and outdoor seating are both great, they have outdoor heaters and throws that make it perfect for a relaxed evening. We had a wonderful time here, and I can’t wait to come back with friends.

Came for Afternoon Tea. We love tea and this place didn’t disappoint. The Tea Ritual service was good. But came a bit late. They setup but then disappeared for 20min. Think they just forgot. But we’re familiar, having lived in Shanghai and experienced similar in Japan. The White Tea Ritual with Desserts was good. The light lunch - Chicken Sesame Noodles / Lou Rou Fan Pork Rice / Ochazuke w Raw Tuna Sashimi / Guava Iced Tea were all also good. Mos def need to order lunch though as the Tea Ritual is mainly tea and the some very light snacks. Love the ambiance. Love the small shop. Love the Modern Chinese Tea experience. Highly recommend this great, super local DTLA Chinatown experience. Glad to see beautiful neighborhood initiatives like this that keep LA’s diverse culture alive and kicking. Street Parking is Steep. Perhaps come on a Sunday :-)

my actual favorite place in this whole city. great authentic food, awesome tea cocktails with really creative Chinese-inspired spins. with their rotating menus it literally never gets old <3 the best thing is the vibe, it’s by far my default third space over any other establishment in LA. will be back for a second year for a birthday

Steep LA is more than just a restaurant, tea shop, or bar β€” it’s a movement aimed at revitalizing the cultural and social fabric of LA’s Chinatown. I’ve visited many times for different events, from guest bartender takeovers to the summer night market, and each time it has fostered a real sense of community while bridging connections across Asian culture. The owners themselves are welcoming and approachable, often serving cocktails and food during events. That personal touch, combined with genuine hospitality, makes the space feel warm and inviting. The food menu highlights classic Taiwanese and Chinese entrees, and after 5 p.m., the focus expands to cocktails. The cocktail list is especially creative, featuring a range of tea-based drinks that draw on diverse tea varieties to create something distinctive and memorable.
